House of Heeren
Haus Heeren , also called Heeren Castle , is a mansion in the Heeren-Werve district of Kamen . It was built at the beginning of the 17th century by the von Bodelschwingh / von der Recke -Heeren family and has been privately owned by the von Plettenberg-Heeren family since 1679 .
The manor house dates back to 1606. It was built as an early baroque moated castle with a square tower on the southeast corner. The house was extended to the east in 1857 with an extension with a polygonal bay tower. The rectangular, two-story stucco building surrounding moat leads water today. The castle construction is based on an oak pile grid. A three-arch bridge connects the manor house with the outer bailey , which was built as a three-wing complex open to the manor house. The two-storey gatehouse with a round arched passage is located in the southern building of the outer bailey.
As a baroque mansion of the former landed gentry, Haus Heeren presents itself with manor house and outer bailey in a rare architectural cohesion and in a pleasingly good structural condition. It still serves its original purpose as the home of the von Plettenberg family.
Since June 2014, after a renovation, the castle has been offering rooms for weddings and seminars.
