The Rheinfrieden house in the Rhöndorf district of Bad Honnef , Rhein-Sieg district , is a rehabilitation facility for people with physical disabilities. It is in the immediate vicinity of the Konrad-Adenauer-Haus at the foot of the Drachenfels .

The institution is responsible for the Josefs-Gesellschaft gGmbH, based in Cologne and Bigge . The house is owned by the Rheinfrieden e. V. Cologne .

Today Haus Rheinfrieden houses a boarding school with a total of 59 living spaces and the Nell-Breuning vocational college with around 125 students. The vocational college can be seen as an integrative type of school. Both disabled and non-disabled students are taught.

The house has the specialist services physiotherapy , occupational therapy , psychotherapy , medical service, pastoral care and social service. In cooperation with the Employment Agency , the transition into working life is made easier for the students. The vocational college defines itself as a special school especially for physically handicapped young people and is linked to the free Catholic schools of the Archdiocese of Cologne .

history

The Rheinfrieden House was built in 1909 by the Catholic Teachers' Association (KLV), Rhineland Provincial Association. As a teacher's home in Rhöndorf, it served many teacher families as a place to relax and as a meeting place for association members. In 1939 the home was confiscated for the National Socialist teachers' association . During the war it served as a hospital . The Catholic Teachers Association, Provincial Association of Rhineland, could on January 12, 1950 by resolution of the General. Organizing Committee of the Military Government will take over the Rhöndorf teachers' home again. The legal successor was the Association of Catholic Educators North Rhine (VKEN) in the Association of Catholic Teachers in Germany (VKLD). In 1963, the Association of Catholic Educators in North Rhine-Westphalia decided to grant the Rheinfrieden e. V. to found Cologne and to transfer the administration of the property of the house of Rheinfrieden to her.

In 1952 the Josefs-Gesellschaft e. V. opened the building in order to found a trade school for handicapped young people. In 1963 and 1984 the school was expanded with pavilion extensions. The school offer was expanded to include the two-year higher commercial school, and since then the commercial school has been offered as a two-year course.

In 2007 and 2008 the original house was completely renovated and refurbished, an extension with 11 single rooms was added, the school building was expanded by 9 classrooms and a communication center was set up.

The Nell-Breuning Vocational College for Business and Administration (abbr. NBBK) is a secondary school with a special mission in the field of vocational education. It includes the commercial school, which leads to basic vocational training and the technical college entrance qualification, and the higher commercial school, which ends with the technical college entrance qualification (school part). At the end of the commercial school, the technical college entrance qualification is achieved, the higher commercial school ends with the technical college entrance qualification (school part). The educational mandate and the examinations are regulated according to the school law of North Rhine-Westphalia ( APO-BK ).

As a special school in the area of ​​the vocational college, the NBBK provides special qualification work with support for young people with a physical disability. Rehabilitation work aims to integrate disabled people into the labor market. The NBBK is a private substitute school in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and is subject to the technical supervision of the Cologne district government and the school ministry in Düsseldorf . In the sponsorship of the Josefs-Gesellschaft gGmbH, it is committed to the basic Catholic doctrine as a Catholic free school; Not least from this is the name given to Oswald von Nell-Breuning (1890–1991), a leading exponent of Catholic social teaching.

Supervised help with homework is offered as part of the so-called "Silentien". Other offers include working groups, excursions, internships and study trips. The vocational college has two disabled-friendly buses available for this purpose.

Today around 125 students in ten classes attend the Nell-Breuning vocational college (type of business and administration). Since 2005 the school has had a new functional building with specialist and classrooms. In 2007 the boarding school received a new residential building geared towards the needs of severely disabled people. In 2008 the old main building was completely renovated to the standard of the modern extension. In addition, the facility has two outdoor living groups that encourage independent living. Since 2010 the facility has also had an auditorium , also known as an atrium.

The friends and sponsors of the Nell-Breuning vocational college in Haus Rheinfrieden Rhöndorf support, as an association with over 100 members, the educational and professional training of physically disabled people.
