House Terrassenufer 3

The Venetian House was a residential building near the Carolabrücke in Dresden that was built around 1845 and destroyed in 1945. The house at Terrassenufer 3 on the Elbe was also known under the name Gutschmid'sches Haus . The historicist building was designed on the model of Gothic Venetian city palaces .

history

Already under August the Strong , magnificent buildings on the Elbe were built based on the example of the Grand Canal in Venice , just as the Augustus Bridge was based on the example of the Rialto Bridge in Venice and the Frauenkirche was based on the example of the Church of Santa Maria della Salute in Venice.

The client Eugen Freiherr von Gutschmid and his architect Heinrich Hermann Bothen , a Semper student, took up this idea and designed the house as a prelude to a boulevard of Venetian palazzi on the banks of the Elbe. On the one hand, the Fondaco dei Turchi is assumed to be the model for the house , on the other hand, it is pointed out that the tracery formation on the first floor follows that of the Doge's Palace and Palazzo Foscari . Otherwise the Dresden building was stylistically related to the Ca 'd'Oro .

Today there is a green area and a bus parking lot at the flood-prone former location of the building.

The building contractor Frank Wießner announced in July 2020 that he wanted to rebuild the Venetian House and two other houses as a creative center and artist hotel. The area belongs to the city of Dresden.
