The house at Wilsdruffer Straße 3 in Dresden is a listed head building on Pirnaischer Platz with a columned arcade with a hipped roof , built in the New Objectivity style (grid facade) with traditional elements (hipped roof) based on the designs by Herbert Terpitz , Heinz Mersiowsky and Manfred Arlt 1959/1960 was built. It represents the transition style between tradition and modernity. Other examples are the TU dormitory on Güntzstraße (1953/1955) and the cafeteria building on Reichenbachstraße (1957/58). Both have a grid facade and hipped roof. The building is part of the Ringstrasse 3–11 / Wilsdruffer Strasse 3–7 building complex .

As the dominant corner building, it represents the architectural counterpart to the Altmarkt building on the east side of the Altmarkt . It was built as an eight-story corner building on a rectangular floor plan and towers over the adjoining six-story residential buildings. The skyscraper was built as part of the "construction of Ernst-Thälmann-Strasse in Dresden" as part of an ensemble that was built as an extension of the building to the east on the Altmarkt.

The facade is framed by local sandstone at the corners and has a windowed grid. Two windows are optically combined. Rust-red ceramic plates are attached below the windows as decorations.

In 1959/1960 sales rooms with sporting goods were built on the ground and first floors. Both sales rooms were connected by a curved staircase. Six office floors were created above this, with the last floor being set back, with a colonnade and entirely made of glass.

Refurbishment 2016

In June 2015, the city of Dresden sold the house, which had been empty for a long time, to the Munich-based company Hirmer Immobilien for 1.3 million euros . It estimated the cost of renovation at 7.4 million euros. Recently, some artists used the upper floors of the house for exhibitions, and there was a bag shop on the ground floor. After a change of ownership, Deutsche Wohnen carried out the renovation in 2016. The building was completely gutted, the windows replaced and the ventilation modernized. A wall frieze, the terrazzo floors in the stairwell, some door skylights on the second floor and the decorative staircase could be preserved and have been renovated. Shops and offices on an area of 2,800 square meters have been rented since autumn 2016.
