The House of the Future is a multi-generation house and neighborhood center in Bremen district Lüssum-Bockhorn . It is the only one of its kind in the state of Bremen . The sponsor is the non-profit association Haus der Zukunft e. V.

The House of the Future was built on the site of the local Evangelical Lutheran parish . In November 2006 the Federal Ministry for Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth included it in the “Multi-Generation Houses Action Program” and will continue to be funded by the Federal Ministry as a multi-generation house. The surrounding district was included in the funding plan for urban development by the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development.

The Bremen multigenerational house was opened on April 3, 2007 by Federal Minister Ursula von der Leyen . It is a joint project in which the Haus der Zukunft e. V. (this includes the neighborhood management for the WiN, Socially Integrative City and Local Strengths programs , the House of the Family , the parents' association for psychomotor development support EPSYMO and the early parent advisory service SWIMMY) cooperate with the opposite day care center and the community center.

The former President of the Senate and Mayor of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen Jens Böhrnsen is the godfather of the House of the Future. The building designed by the architects Helmut Rabien and Ulrich Helpertz from the Bremen-Nord building authority was awarded the 1998 BDA Bremen Prize. In 2008, the head of the facility was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for her work in the House of the Future.

Employment offers

"Employment opportunities according to AGH-E (remuneration variant)" are offered:

On the one hand, the “kitchen project” offers local employment and qualification in the domestic sector. The participants are often mothers from the day-care center, for whom the kitchen project is intended to enable them to (re) enter work and who learn something about health and nutrition through this project as well as trying out the compatibility of family and work.

The second project is called “women's workshop / district culture work in which a work opportunity according to AGH-E is available. In the "International Women's Workshop Lüssum" there is a sewing workshop and a room in which you can do handicrafts, paint or work in a similarly creative way. The tasks for the employees include the common needlework and handicrafts with women from the neighborhood and also the support and guidance of the visitors in various activities.

In the House of the Future there is an “Early Parents Advice Center”, advice for migrants and families of Turkish origin on questions about the upbringing and development of children. In addition to problems in the family and upbringing, help is offered in the areas of kindergarten and school. The unemployment and social counseling service also guarantees assistance with questions about unemployment benefits and official matters. In addition, seminars are held to increase employability.

Cross-generational offers

In order to promote the exchange and dialogue between the generations, the House of the Future offers various joint activities (e.g. exercise and educational offers, excursions, breakfast meetings, etc.) for young and old people.

The association Haus der Zukunft e. V. was founded by citizens of the district and by specialists working in the district in 1991. It has a total of around 30 members. Almost all of the initiatives and institutions that are active in the house, as well as the Evangelical Lutheran. Lüssum parish represented. The board of directors is also composed accordingly. The board of directors coordinates and designs the work of the district center. The district manager holds the chairmanship, and she therefore also bears legal and financial responsibility. The association joined a welfare association in 1993 and has been a member of the Diakonisches Werk in the Bremen Diakonie ever since . It is recognized as non-profit by the tax office. The association Haus der Zukunft e. V. often takes on the sponsorship of resident activation projects and works closely with the district management due to the structure of the association.
