Haworthia bayeri is a species of the genus Haworthia in the subfamily of the Affodill family (Asphodeloideae). The specific epithet bayeri honors the South African entomologist and plant lover Martin Bruce Bayer (* 1935), who has specialized in the plant genus Haworthia .

description

Haworthia bayeri grows without a trunk. The 15 to 20 trimmed leaves form a rosette with a diameter of up to 8 centimeters. The dark brownish green to blackish leaf blade is rounded at its tip and not pointed. The leaf surface is rough. The leaf margin and leaf keel are entire or finely thorny. The opaque, cloudy-translucent end face has a sparse net-like pattern or longitudinal stripes.

The inflorescence reaches a length of up to 30 centimeters and consists of 15 to 25 flowers .

Systematics and distribution

Haworthia bayeri is widespread in the South African province of Western Cape in the Little Karoo .

The first description by JD Venter and Steven A. Hammer was published in 1997.

A synonym is Haworthia uniondalensis hort. (no year, nom. invalid ICBN -Article 29.1).
