The gymnasium at Löhrtor the city of Siegen (short: Löhrtor or GAL ) is the oldest school of the winner country . It was founded in 1536 by Erasmus Sarcerius as a Latin school . A municipal parish school was mentioned in a document as early as 1342 as a predecessor institution. The current building near the historic Löhrtor of the city of Siegen was built in 1954.

history

The school was founded by the reformer Sarcerius; Since then, the school has had an eventful history, until it rose to become one of the best-known educational institutions in Westphalia in the 19th century, not least because of its scientific focus . This Siegen school was particularly popular among manufacturers and merchants. Under the direction of Dr. Wilhelm Tägert around the turn of the century, the school increased its number of students to over 400 and officially became a secondary school . After Siegen was destroyed in 1944, the grammar school moved into a new building in Oranienstrasse in the 1950s. Since 2013 the grammar school has been working under the pedagogical motto “from tradition with responsibility in your future” .

Awards

On December 16, 2009, the grammar school was awarded the certificate School without Racism - School with Courage as the 156th school in North Rhine-Westphalia at a general meeting of students.

Teaching concept

The high school teaches in a 60-minute model. This means that lessons in levels 5 to 9 end at noon. This leaves time in the afternoon for school activities and extracurricular activities.
