geography
course
The source of the Heßbach is located on the parcel of land above the young oaks . From there it flows mainly in a southerly direction until the Bruchbach flows into it and from there on in a southwesterly direction. After a curve, it continues its path first in a north-westerly direction to the next larger bend, from where the stream then flows again in a south-westerly direction to Saarwellingen. There it flows largely underground until it flows into the Elbach.
The course of the Heßbach is largely accompanied by the Mühlenbach Schluchtentour hiking trail , which leads to its headwaters .
nature and environment
Renaturation
In the course of the Breitwies development plan , renaturation measures for the Heßbach were also planned. The stream, which was largely piped, was exposed. Existing sole shells were also removed. The aim of these renaturation measures was primarily to improve the CO2 balance and the temperature regulation of the region, such as the creation of unsealed retention areas .
geology
The Hessbach is cut into sediments from the Middle Buntsandstein . Since the beginning of the Holocene , floodplain sediments have also accumulated there.
