In the area of the Saarlouis district of Roden, the Ellbach is to be converted into a local recreation area according to plans by the city of Saarlouis. According to the city of Saarlouis, the construction work will begin in summer 2009 and will last around 60 working days.

The banded demoiselle

NSG Ellbachtal

The NSG Ellbachtal , located northeast of Saarlouis, has a size of around 55 ha. It is characterized by small, moist hay meadows and alder trees grow on the banks. Both the blue-winged demoiselle and the banded demoiselle can be observed over the water of the stream, and the small woodpecker breeds in the wooded border near the bank .

Mills

history

Since the year 1734, due to the French lead in Lohgerbertechnik , required the former coming from Wallerfangen Gerber Lohmann and sawmills, which is why they are newly settled in Roden and not after the short period in which they worked in Saarlouis itself, returned to Wallerfangen . There was no river or stream there to run mills . In the immediate vicinity of the fortress city of Saarlouis, this was only offered by clearing. An equally attributable to the tannery beings Mühltyp was represented by the Saar-mill, first as a fulling mill was used. With the already existing grain mills, there were nine mills on Saarwellinger and Rodener Bann along the Ellbach . The importance of the Ellbach mills, which led to the colloquial names Millenbach or Millbach, waned from 1820, when the main tannery centers increasingly relocated to the Anglo-American region.

Mill types

As of 2009, all mills on the Ellbach are closed, as their operation was no longer profitable and their functions are no longer needed. For historical reasons alone, various associations try to preserve the remains of the Abels mill in Saarlouis-Roden.

Mills on the Ellbach are or were:

Flour mills:

  • Abels Mill
  • Cross mill
  • Quirin Mill
  • Schilles mill
  • Saar mill
  • Pittenmühle
  • Reqniersmühle

Sawmill:

  • Sawmill in Saarwellingen

Tannery mills:
