Hedwig Thöne

Hedwig Thöne (born January 11, 1887 in Wesel ; † June 11, 1962 in Berlin-Lichterfelde ) was a German educator and politician ( DVP ).

Life

Hedwig Thöne attended the Königin-Luise-Schule in Cologne and passed the teacher exams for middle and high schools in 1906. This was followed by a three-year study visit to England and Belgium . She completed her studies in February 1916 at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn with the state examination as senior teacher (pro fac. Doc.). Two months later she started teaching as an assessor. She worked as a member of the provincial school college until 1923, and from 1916 to 1922 she was a teacher at Lyzeum III in Cologne. On July 1, 1923, she was appointed high school councilor at the Provincial School College in Breslau , where she worked until July 1924. She then moved to the Provincial College in Berlin , where she was also responsible for the Province of Brandenburg . She continued her teaching activities as a high school councilor in Berlin-Steglitz and Cologne.

During the time of the Weimar Republic , Thöne joined the German People's Party (DVP). In December 1924 she was elected as a member of the Prussian state parliament, to which she belonged until 1932. In parliament, she represented constituency 22 (Düsseldorf-Ost).

After the National Socialists came to power, Thöne initially remained in the school service. In 1934 she refused to take the oath on Adolf Hitler , so that she had to give up her functions and resigned from the service. In the following years she was involved in the Confessing Church . However, on January 1, 1936, she joined the National Socialist Teachers' Association (NSLB) and was a member of the NSDAP from April 1, 1940 . From 1941 to 1956 she was a high school councilor and superior at the Queen Luise Foundation in Berlin-Dahlem . She had previously been a member of the foundation's board of trustees. Hedwig Thöne last lived in Berlin-Lichterfelde, where she died in 1962. She was buried in the Lichterfelde park cemetery.
