Hegge is a district and industrial center of the municipality of Waltenhofen in the Oberallgäu district .

In 1346 a mill “zem Håggen uf der Iler” was mentioned, in 1419 another mention follows. 1543/45 was a paper mill stiftkemptisches fief in Hegge. The name Hegge was first mentioned in 1593 . Other mentions followed, particularly in relation to paper mills. In the 19th century, as part of industrialization in the 19th century, an extensive paper mill was built , which Haindl Papier took over in the 1920s and closed in 1972.

Due to the complicated location of the old Kempten main station , all long-distance and express trains ran to the Kempten-Hegge stop from 1906 to 1965/69 . From there, shuttle trains drove into the Kempten terminus, but this operation ceased in 1969 at the latest, as the new through station was opened at that time.

In the 1940s, the Roman Catholic Church of Mary Queen of the Apostles was built in Hegge in neo-Romanesque style.
