Heide Dienst (born July 27, 1939 in Vienna ) is an Austrian historian , emeritus professor at the University of Vienna and academic author.

Life

Dienst studied history, classical philology and art history at the University of Vienna and obtained a doctorate in philosophy in 1965. She received her doctorate in 1965 with a thesis on Austrian regional history and its sources in the time of Margrave Leopold III. - published under the title: Babenberger Studies. Notes on traditions from Lower Austria as sources for the time of Margrave Leopold III. Dienst completed his habilitation in 1984 with the thesis Regional History and Society in the High Middle Ages using the example of Austria and became Professor of Austrian History at the Institute for Austrian Historical Research at the University of Vienna. Her main research interests are historical auxiliary sciences such as source studies and diplomacy , as well as social and cultural history in the Middle Ages and early modern times, women's studies , feminist medieval studies , regional studies and constitutional history.
