The Heidenburg is the remainder of a castle at Walpurgisstraße 20 in the historic center of the Mühlhausen district of the state capital Stuttgart in Baden-Württemberg .
history
The Ortsburg was probably built in the 12th century by the Lords of Blankenstein.
In 1275 the Walpurgis Church (former castle chapel) was mentioned in a document as the parish church of Mühlhausen and destroyed in 1312 by the people of Esslingen during the Imperial and City War. In 1488 the nave was enlarged and in 1567 the church became Protestant. Under the patronage of the Barons von Palm, the church tower was supplemented with an added octagon in 1812. On April 15, 1943, the facility was destroyed in an air raid.
In 1973 the Walpurgishaus was built as a Protestant community center and is freely accessible as castle and church grounds.
Only the retaining walls and a cellar remain from the original castle complex.
