The artist, who was born and raised in Hamburg and who became a half orphan at an early age, worked as a record seller after graduating from high school. In addition, she sang in the amateur club Alsterspatzen (not to be confused with the children's choir of the Hamburg State Opera, which has existed since 1975 ). In 1963 she won a hit competition in the Bahrenfelder Forsthaus. Heidi Bachert received her first record deal in 1964 with Polydor . On her first single in March 1964, based on the successful hit “ Schuld was nur der Bossa Nova” , sung by Manuela , she recorded the title When Bossa Nova doesn't kiss you . With this title she came in the top 50 of the German music magazine Musikmarkt on place 47. Her greatest success was My Boy Lollipop . The original version from 1956 is by Barbie Gaye and was covered with success in 1964 by Millie and Teresa Brewer, among others . The song is considered the first international hit of the ska rhythm . Bachert's version with a text by Kurt Hertha reached number 32 in the music market top 50 in August 1964 and stayed in the charts for six weeks. After six single productions, Bachert switched to Metronome in 1967 , where there was only one single recording. Since Heidi Bachert could not achieve any further record successes after My Boy Lollipop , it became quiet about the singer after the last record release. Bachert was a member of the band Newborn for eight years until 2000 , before she left the stage completely for health reasons and retired entirely to private life. Heidi Bachert died on July 18, 2019 after a long and serious illness.
