Heilbron is a city in the South African province of Free State . It is located in the Ngwathe parish in the Fezile Dabi district . Heilbron is located at an altitude of 1577 meters above sea level and had 5,486 inhabitants in 2011 (census). The neighboring townships of Sandersville and Phiritana had 2,694 and 19,227 inhabitants, respectively.

Heilbron was founded in 1872 and named after the German city of Heilbronn .
