The Heilig-Kreuz-Stiftung (own spelling Heilig Kreuz-Stiftung) based in Gladbeck - Butendorf is a non-profit foundation under church law with legal capacity. Its purpose is to promote the worship service in the listed Holy Cross Church and to contribute to the maintenance of the building.

Emergence

In view of the increasingly difficult economic situation for the churches in Germany, and even before the economic crisis in the diocese of Essen became apparent in 2004 , those responsible at the Holy Cross Church tried to find alternative solutions for the maintenance and preservation of the church. At Easter 2001, Pastor Ralph Eberhard Brachthäuser presented his idea of a foundation for the first time in a parish letter to the parish, which could help with its income to cope with the tasks mentioned. On his initiative, the church council of the Heilig Kreuz parish founded the “Heilig Kreuz Foundation” on April 13, 2003 after a little more than two years of preparation . Already on May 16, 2003 it received its recognition by the Münster district president Jörg Twenhöven .

Holy Cross Church

The "Holy Cross Foundation" was the first newer foundation of its kind in the diocese of Essen and far beyond. An essential feature of this foundation is that church assets were not used to build up the foundation capital, but that this foundation capital was collected solely from donations. In this respect, it has the character of a community foundation .

According to the statutes of the foundation, the purpose of the foundation is to promote the worship service in the listed Heilig Kreuz-Kirche in Gladbeck-Butendorf: This happens “in particular by maintaining and renewing the interior of the church, the vestments and sacred equipment, the church music and the maintenance of the church in the General. "

Until December 31, 2016, the foundation was represented by the board of directors, which included chairman Ralph Eberhard Brachthäuser and three people. He was supported by a board of trustees made up of up to eight people and chaired by Achim Wessing from 2006 to 2014 . Rüdiger Höffer has been Chairman of the Board of Trustees since 2015 ; Achim Wessing was appointed honorary chairman in February 2015 .

Pastor Andreas Lamm has chaired the foundation and its board since January 1st, 2017. Other members of the board are church council member Christoph Söthe and Uwe Lewen, chairman of the parish council of Heilig Kreuz. Söthe and Lewen were sent by the respective committees for this task. The former chairman of the board, Pastor Ralph Eberhard Brachthäuser, announced his resignation at the end of the year. The reasons he cited were the growing pressure he was feeling and the effects on his health.

activity

As the first organization of this kind in the diocese of Essen, the foundation took over the church musician of the Holy Cross Church as an employee in October 2008. This could no longer be employed by the new Gladbeck parish due to the savings measures taken by the diocese.

As a significant Gladbeck contribution to the Culture Capital Week Local Hero as part of RUHR.2010 , the foundation presented the Flautando Cologne flute ensemble in a “Roman Night Butendorf” .

In the first eight years of its existence, the foundation invested almost 70,000 euros in line with its purpose.

The first prize was awarded to the Aachen artist Claudia Merx , who had already been awarded the State Prize for Arts and Crafts in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2003. On February 16, 2013, the Lenten Shroud was presented to the public as part of a festive service in the Holy Cross Church.

In the “Fastentuch modern” exhibition, the German Textile Museum in Krefeld presented award-winning designs from the Ars liturgica competition 2012 from November 2013 to January 2014. All designs cited historical textiles. Textiles from the German Textile Museum were contrasted with the work of the award winners, e. B. Egyptian mummy bandages, late antique fabrics, damask cloths and chasubles.

On the Open Monument Day 2014, the Foundation presented the only preserved and freshly restored church window by Franz Woort-Kerkhoff from 1952 as well as the preserved original designs on a scale of 1:10 and original templates on a scale of 1: 1 by Friedrich Stummel for the four Evangelist windows and two round windows from 1914.
