Holy Cross in Eurasburg

The former pilgrimage church Heilig Kreuz is a monument in Eurasburg (Swabia) .

history

The foundation of the church on the northern edge of a castle barn , probably from the 10th century, comes from the time before 1180. The core of the church is Romanesque and probably dates to the second half of the 12th century other remnants of a Gothic painting. The patronage of the Holy Cross is attested for the first time in 1580 . In 1764/65 a sacristy was added and the choir roof changed. Later the original roof turret was expanded into a square tower with a gable roof , on which a hexagonal tower with an onion dome was placed in 1764 . In 1875 the church was lengthened by four meters according to plans by the Friedberg master mason Xaver Ilg and the furnishings were redesigned in a neo-Gothic style by Eduard Baldauf and C. Port . The stucco in the style of Bandlwerk stucks dates from 1923-24. The ceiling painting, which shows the finding of the cross by St. Helena shows, was created by Hans Kögl from Pasing . The church was extended and widened to the west in 1936/37.

Apparently there were several pilgrimages to Eurasburg in the 19th century .
