Holy Trinity (Kühlungsborn)
The Catholic Church of the Holy Trinity is located in Kühlungsborn in the Rostock district ( Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ).
History and architecture
The Catholic community in Kühlungsborn was founded after the Second World War due to the influx of expelled Sudeten Germans, Silesians and East Prussians . Until 2000, the diaspora community and numerous holidaymakers used a former dance hall in the oldest hotel in the Brunshaupten district as a place of worship.
The foundation stone of the new church in the immediate vicinity of the beach promenade was laid in 1999; he wears, with reference to the Trinity - patronage , the inscription Gloria Patri et Filio et Spiritui Sancto ( "Glory be to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit"). The architects Carsten Gieseke and Nicolaus Wöhlk were responsible for the design and construction management. After completion in June 2000, the church was consecrated on July 23, 2000 by Auxiliary Bishop Norbert Werbs .
The building is based on the classic scheme of a village church , but varies this in that roofs and walls are broken up into variously nested, often sloping and triangular surfaces and structural elements. The visual conceptions of the ship and tent are the guiding principles . The room is equipped with 270 seats and, if necessary, can be expanded by 60 seats in the community hall by opening a sliding wall. Three bells hang in the 18 meter high church tower .
In addition, two apartments for visiting pastors and the pastoral assistant as well as a youth room were built. As a branch church, the church belongs to the Catholic parish of Bad Doberan .
Furnishing
- The stained glass windows in modern shapes were made in the Derix Glasstudios in Taunusstein.
- Altar, ambo , tabernacle and baptismal font are kept in simple, cubic forms.
- The sediles are made of wood.
- The Way of the Cross is a pictorial sermon about the Passion of Christ.
- The Madonna is a copy of a medieval figure from the Paderborn area.
- There is a harmonium with a loudspeaker system on the gallery.
