Wedding room in the Wennigsen local history museum

The Wennigsen local history museum is a monument in the municipality of Wennigsen (Deister) . It is located in a half-timbered house built around 1700 that once served as a mill. The house is owned by the municipality and is now run by the support group Heimatmuseum Wennigsen (Deister) e. V. supervised.

Upper mill

The Upper Mill was located in the building of today's local history museum . This was one of seven Wennigs water mills, three of which were overshot water wheels . These were fed by the Mühlbach and further east by a specially built mill operating ditch. Of the three mills mentioned, only the local history museum and the middle mill remain today . The lower mill , also known as the monastery mill, was demolished. Today only the cascade is left of this. Originally all three mills belonged to Wennigsen Monastery . Each of the three mills had a reservoir. Above the local history museum, it is still preserved today. The Mühlbach, which feeds the mills, is also largely a listed building. The mill operated in the local history museum was part of a sawmill in which the wood from the Deister monastery forests was processed. From 1932 to the 1950s, the mill was used as a grain mill and is colloquially known by long-time residents as Dettmer's mill. That was the name of the last miller's family, whose descendants still live in Wennigsen today. In 2002, a new mill wheel was purchased from the proceeds of the 800th anniversary of Wennigsen. This turns today as a display wheel.

Forecourt

Festival on the Mühlplatz

The space in front of the local history museum served as a wood storage area when the mill was used as a sawmill. This is now part of the overall Green W concept that the Wennigsen municipality developed in 2009 as part of the Hanover Garden Region. Local festivals such as the annual museum festival take place in the square.

Wedding room

One of the two external wedding rooms of the Wennigsen community is located in the local history museum. Bridal couples have been able to get married there since 2008. The room is a replicated former “parlor”, as it was found in bourgeois or rural houses in the Calenberger Land in the previous century . The other wedding room is located in the Widdergut Vier Eichen , also a monument.
