Heinrich Brun

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Heinrich Brun , also known as Hinrich or Hinricus Brun , was probably the first preacher in East Frisia to spread Luther's teachings . Soon others followed him and so the Reformation was able to gain a foothold in East Frisia.

It is said that he was a Catholic priest in Aurich . In the spring of 1519 (just over a year after the 95 theses were posted ) he turned to Luther's teachings and delivered the first public sermon on Luther's teachings in East Frisia. This happened most likely with the knowledge of the Count of East Frisia Edzard I . The Duchess Margarethe von Braunschweig (widow of Friedrich III. ) Was Edzard's aunt and supporter of Luther. As early as 1522, they contacted Luther to get more preachers. So was John Stevens from Wittenberg to the north .

Brun must have left Aurich soon, because in 1519 the Oldersumer Heinrich Arnold von Zütphen (also called Hinrich Arnoldi), chaplain Ulrich Attenas , became a preacher in Aurich.

There is no precise information about the death of Heinrich Bruns; he is said to have died around 1527. On Oldersumer colloquy of 1528 he has not taken part.
