Heinrich Caesar Berann (born March 31, 1915 in Innsbruck ; † December 4, 1999 in Lans , Tyrol ) was an Austrian graphic artist . His panorama maps, which combined modern cartography with classical painting, found worldwide distribution.

HC Berann, son of a family of established Innsbruck painters and sculptors, graduated from the Federal School for Painting in Innsbruck from 1930 to 1933. After graduating, he worked as a freelance artist and designer until his breakthrough in 1934 when he won first prize at a Competition to design the panorama map of the newly opened Grossglockner High Alpine Road . After Austria's annexation by the Nazis , Berann also created conformist works, such as the poster for the Nazi Winter Fighting Games that took place in Villach in February 1939 .

In the years that followed, he was able to refine his unique style, which set the trend for today's panorama maps. His international successes of several hundred maps were in addition to the panorama maps for various Olympic Games also well-known works for the National Geographic Society .

He died at the age of 84 in the Tyrolean town of Lans, where he had lived since 1952. His work is continued by his student and long-time assistant Heinz Vielkind with his own studio.
