Heinrich Christoph Nebel

Heinrich Christoph Nebel (born March 19, 1715 in Wallernhausen ; † May 6, 1786 in Worms ) was a German literary scholar, rhetorician and Lutheran theologian.

Life

The son of the Wallenhauser preacher and later pastor of Hohenweisel Johann Peter Nebel and his wife, a daughter of Heinrich Theobald Schenk (1656–1727) and Marie Susanne Stech, had initially graduated from the city school in Nidda. He then received lessons from his father as well as from a private teacher and then continued his education at the pedagogical grammar school in Giessen. In 1730 he began to study theology and philosophical sciences at the University of Gießen , frequented the University of Jena , worked there as a private teacher and in 1739 became a teacher at the pedagogical high school in Gießen.

At the University of Giessen he completed the academic degree of a master's degree in philosophy on December 22, 1739 , completed his habilitation on October 15, 1740 as a private lecturer at the philosophical faculty and was appointed full professor of rhetoric and poetry on May 10, 1745 , which office he started on June 3. On December 15, 1752 he was the fourth pastor at the Evangelical Trinity Church in Worms, where he rose to the third pastor in 1759. In 1762 he became second pastor and in 1765 senior of the ministry as well as a visitor to the grammar school there, which he stayed until the end of his life.

His son Philipp Christian Nebel (* 1750; † August 5, 1783) is known from his marriage to Carlotte Elisabeth (1727–1761), the daughter of Johann Jakob Rambach , on May 24, 1746 . He was a physicist in the offices of Zwingenberg and Jägernburg in Hessen-Darmstadt.
