Life

Gebhardt was a son of the later chief magistrate at the district court of Gießen Heinrich Gebhardt. He attended high school in Giessen and graduated from high school there in the spring of 1891. He then studied law at the University of Giessen and, like his father, became a member of the Corps Hassia . He later continued his studies in Munich and Leipzig . In the summer semester of 1894 he returned to Giessen and passed the faculty examination there.

After passing the assessor examination, Gebhardt became a police officer at the police office in Darmstadt in 1901, then district officer in Lauterbach, and in 1907 at the district office in Mainz. In 1910 he was appointed government councilor and director of the police office in Giessen. He took part in the First World War as a captain in the artillery. In 1919 he became police director in Offenbach am Main , in 1921 district director in Dieburg, 1924 district director in Friedberg and in 1928 provincial director of the Starkenburg province and district director of the Darmstadt district. On January 30, 1934, he was retired against his will by the National Socialist rulers. In view of the lack of personnel caused by the war, he made himself available again in 1942 and was entrusted with the management of the Dieburg District Office from 1943 to July 1, 1945 .

He was buried in the forest cemetery in Darmstadt.
