Heinrich Geidel

Heinrich Geidel (born August 6, 1929 in Leipzig ) is a German internist and medicine journalist .

After graduating from the Martin Luther Gymnasium in Eisenach , Heinrich Geidel initially worked as an assistant nurse in the Ruhla hospital from 1948 to 1950 . From 1950 to 1955 he studied medicine in Jena and received his license to practice medicine in 1957. In 1960 he received his Dr. med. PhD.

From 1961 until his retirement in 1994 Heinrich Geidel worked at the 1st Medical Clinic of the Dresden-Friedrichstadt District Hospital as an internist specializing in rheumatology - from 1965 as senior physician, as provisional clinic director from 1974 and as chief physician from 1976.

In 1980 he completed his habilitation in internal medicine at the Carl-Gustav-Carus Medical Academy in Dresden .

After being granted the license to teach, Geidel worked as an honorary lecturer at the Academy for Medical Training in the GDR from 1983 . Because of his strict refusal to join the SED, he was appointed associate professor at the Medical Faculty of the Technical University of Dresden only in 1994 shortly before his retirement as chief physician.

Geidel was one of the founders of the Saxon State Medical Association . From 1990 to 1997 he was a board member and from 1991 to 1997 founding chairman of the Academy for Medical Training in Saxony. From 1991 to 1995 he was a member of the Senate for Medical Training of the German Medical Association .

Heinrich Geidel was one of the editors of the Journal for Evidenz, Further Education and Quality in Health Care (ZEFQ) from 1995 to 2012 and was significantly involved in developing the journal into the leading medium for evidence-based medicine , quality assurance in medicine and patient safety in the German-speaking world. From 2000 to 2015 he was responsible for the series "100 Years Ago". Medical and health policy developments of the first years of the 20th century are classified in 100 articles, taking modern knowledge into account.
