Count Heinrich Larisch von Moennich (born February 13, 1850 in Ebelsberg , Upper Austria ; † December 8, 1918 at Solza Castle near Karwin ) was an Austrian industrialist and politician.

Life and family

Heinrich Graf Larisch von Moennich came from a very aristocratic Silesian family that was resident and wealthy in both the Prussian and Austrian parts of Silesia . He belonged to the Austrian branch and the Karwin branch of the family, which had already been elevated to the Bohemian baron status in 1664 and to the Bohemian count status in 1748. His parents were the later Austrian Finance Minister Johann Graf Larisch von Moennich (1821-1884) and his wife Franziska von Kraft (born May 17, 1829).

family

In 1871 he married a cousin, Countess Henriette Larisch von Mönnich (1853–1916). The couple had two sons and two daughters, including:

  • Johann Heinrich Franz Maria (born October 6, 1872)
  • Franziska Henriette Johanna Maria (born September 2, 1873)

Professional and political career

Count Heinrich Larisch inherited not only many goods in Austrian Silesia (except Karwin also Steinau, Albersdorf and Tzerlitzko) but was still inheriting commissioner in Freistadt, German-people Markdorf, Piersna, Oderberg, top and Niederseibersdorf, Schönhof, Roy and Ernsdorf, all also located in the Austrian part of Silesia. In addition, he was entertainer on Bluschczan and Rogau in the district of Ratibor , and also landlord on Klein-Gorschütz, Lazisk and Godow, all in Prussian Silesia. Numerous commercial operations were added to the inherited agricultural holdings, particularly high-yield coal mines. He devoted himself particularly to the expansion of the coal mines by improving the technical equipment, increasing the number of shafts and building a coke plant. He had his own power station and put the first electric conveyor system into operation. In this way, he tripled coal and coke production.

In addition to a zinc white factory inherited from his grandfather, Count Heinrich Larisch von Moennich (1793-1859), in Peterwald, he also founded a soda factory in 1852. Since he not only took care of his own coal mines, but also promoted coal mining in Austria in general , he was elected President of the Association of Mining, Iron and Machine Industries in Austria in 1890. In 1897 he was a co-founder of the Central Association of Mine Owners Austria, whose president he remained until his death in 1918.

In addition to his economic activities, he was also politically active. First he inherited his hereditary seat in the manor house of the Austrian Imperial Council from his father in 1884 . In the same year he was also elected member of the Silesian Landtag and from 1886 governor of the Austrian Duchy of Silesia.

Given the multitude of his economic and political activities, it was inevitable that he received numerous honors. In 1879 he became KuK treasurer , in 1889 a privy councilor , president of the Austro-Silesian agricultural and forestry society and knight of honor of the Sovereign Knight of Malta .

He died on December 8, 1918 at Solza Castle near Karwin in the Czechoslovak Republic founded on October 28, 1918 .
