Heinrich Graffmann

Heinrich Graffmann was a German soccer player who made it to the finals for the German championship twice with Meidericher SV .

Career in football

Graffmann's family came from the Duisburg district of Meiderich , where his ancestor of the same name Heinrich Graffmann had helped found the local soccer club Meidericher SV in 1902. It is not known exactly when he himself began his career with this club. In the 1926/27 season, however, he was already part of the squad of the first team, the captain of which was his brother Eberhard Graffmann . To distinguish the brother couple, Eberhard was also referred to as Graffmann I and Heinrich as Graffmann II . At that time, the MSV was a top team in the Gauliga Niederrhein, but narrowly missed the title several times. In contrast, the team occupied first place in the table with the participation of Graffmann at the end of the 1928/29 season and thus became Lower Rhine champions for the first time in the club's history. As a result, Meiderich was allowed to play for the West German championship , in which after a defeat in the ultimately necessary playoff against FC Schalke 04, the second place was taken. Nevertheless, Graffmann and his colleagues were allowed to take part in the German championship finals of 1929 and met the reigning champions Hamburger SV in the round of 16 on June 16 . Graffmann, who was called up in the defense in the then usual 2-3-5 system , experienced a strong performance by his team in the Duisburg Wedaustadion , which was able to catch up with a 0-2 lead by the North Germans. Shortly before the end of the game, however, it was himself who could not prevent a flank from Rave to Horn ; the resulting goal to 2: 3 meant the elimination for MSV.

On the Lower Rhine he fought with his team to defend their title, but Homberger SV was able to prevail in 1930. A year later, however, succeeded in winning the title again. In the West German championship, in which Graffmann was particularly noticeable with a good performance against Union Gelsenkirchen , Meiderich took third place and was thus able to qualify for the German championship in 1931 . There the eleven had to travel to TSV 1860 Munich in the first round , but were defeated 1: 4 with the help of Graffmann. The player then remained loyal to Meiderich for some time and was again Niederrheinmeister in 1932 before joining another club in 1933.
