Heinrich I. (Oldenburg)
Heinrich I of Oldenburg (* around 1122, † 1167 in Wildeshausen ) was Count of Oldenburg from 1142 and founder of the Wildeshausen line of the Oldenburg Count House. He was the eldest son of Count Egilmar II of Oldenburg and Eilika von Werl-Rietberg, a daughter of Count Heinrich I.
After the death of his father in 1142, he followed together with his younger brother Christian I as regent. The Oldenburg rulership and property rights were divided: Christian I stayed in Oldenburg, Heinrich I took his seat in Wildeshausen, where his father and grandfather Egilmar I had already acted as bailiffs of the Wildeshauser Alexander monastery .
He also became Vogt of Rastede and Count of Rietberg , which he later lost to Heinrich the Lion . He gained the rights of the Counts of Stade and took part with Christian I in Henry the Lion's campaigns against the Frisians. In view of the weak sources, it is unclear whether he took part in the fight against the Saxon duke like his brother .
