Heinrich I von Raron († May 11, 1271 ) was Bishop of Sitten from 1243 to 1271 .

Life

Heinrich came from the wealthy family of the Barons von Raron in Valais . His father Heinrich was lord of Mannenberg and vice president of Leuk and Raron , the Sion bishop Heinrich II of Raron was his nephew. He was first mentioned in 1221 as a canon in Sion. Between 1232 and 1237 he was cantor of the Sion cathedral chapter and from 1238 to 1243 dean of Valeria . Heinrich was elected Bishop of Sitten in August 1243 . He was ordained bishop in spring 1244. He concluded a ten-year alliance with Bern in 1252 . In 1260 he was forced to cede the episcopal territories in Lower Valais to Peter II of Savoy in an exchange contract, but was able to cancel the contract in 1268. Heinrich gave the city ​​of Sion new statutes in 1269.
