Rudolf of Valpelline

Rudolf of Valpelline († May 24, 1273 ) was bishop of Sion from 1271 to 1273 .

Life

Rudolf came from a noble family from the Aosta Valley . The Archbishop of Tarentaise , Rudolf Grossi de Châtelard, was his uncle. Rudolf was canon in Sion in 1264, he was also a canon in Aosta and is mentioned in 1270 as archdeacon of Tarentaise . Rudolf was elected Bishop of Sitten in 1271 and received his episcopal ordination between November 12th and December 23rd, 1271. He made an alliance with Philip of Savoy and promoted trade across the Simplon Pass .
