Heinrich II. (Nassau-Beilstein)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Heinrich II. Von Nassau-Beilstein (born September 29, 1374 ; † shortly after October 12, 1412 ) was Count of Nassau-Beilstein from 1378/80 until his death . He ruled the county together with his younger brother Reinhard (* 1377; † before 1414/18).

Life

Heinrich was the eldest son of Count Heinrich I von Nassau-Beilstein and his wife Meyna (Imagina) von Westerburg († around 1380). Heinrich was still involved in the government of the sub-county while his father was still alive. After the father's death around 1378/80 Heinrich and his brother Reinhard took over the government. Heinrich received Beilstein Castle and assumed the title "Herr zu Beilstein". Reinhard received the Liebenscheid Castle . The county of Nassau-Beilstein, however, remained undivided.

After taking office, Heinrich managed to improve the county's financial situation and redeem numerous claims that his father had pledged.

In the dispute over the rule of Heinsberg, an heir to his grandmother Adelheid von Heinsberg and Blankenburg , he was able to receive compensation payments in the form of an annual pension from Wilhelm von Jülich in 1380. This pension, 50 gold guilders from the Blankenberg autumn bede , was received by the Nassau-Beilstein house until it expired. Heinrich also succeeded in defending the sovereign rights claimed by Nassau over the rule of the Westerwald against Westerburg and Runkel.

Heinrich was present at the Mainz Reichstag in 1406. Here he was one of the imperial estates that were supposed to negotiate a compromise between King Ruprecht and the Marbacher Bund .

He probably died shortly after October 12, 1412. His inheritance fell to his two sons Johann and Wilhelm. At first they ruled together with his brother Reinhard, who is no longer mentioned in a document from 1412. Heinrich was buried in Mainz Cathedral .
