Heinrich Jacobi (local history researcher)

Georg Heinrich Jacobi , artist name Heinrich Montanus , (* December 20, 1845 in Schneeberg ; † May 20, 1916 ibid) was a German pedagogue and local researcher active as a writer in the Saxon Ore Mountains .

Life

Heinrich Jacobi was born in Schneeberg as the seventh child of the Schneeberg mountain factor Otto Friedrich Ferdinand Jakobi and his wife Eleonore Henriette Jakobi. He attended the community school and the Progymnasium in Schneeberg, then the Realschule in Annaberg and then the state university. After successfully passing the examination for the higher teaching post in 1870, he became a teacher at the Selekte in Penig . In 1872 he received a senior teaching position in his hometown. Here he was, among other things, a founding member of the natural science, later scientific association in 1874.

On August 13, 1874, he married the daughter of a court assessor, Anna Sidonie Schönfelder. The marriage had two children.

At Pentecost 1881 Jacobi became a senior secondary school teacher in Werdau . In 1888 he received his doctorate in Leipzig with a thesis on Georgius Agricola for the dignity of Dr. phil. On January 1, 1893, he became the Realschuldirektor in Reichenbach in Vogtland .

After retiring in 1908, he moved back to Schneeberg with his wife. The Saxon Ministry of Culture awarded him the title of Academic Councilor for his achievements. The Saxon King awarded him the Knight's Cross First Class of the Order of Albrecht .

Services

In his obituary it is said that he was one of the best and most loyal sons of the Ore Mountains. In an enthusiastic song he sang the beauty of our mountains; Equipped with a deep knowledge, he promoted the knowledge of the nature and history of the Ore Mountains and its inhabitants . He earned lasting merits by founding a training school for businesspeople in Schneeberg, which was later expanded to become a business school.
