Heinrich Konrad Schneider
Heinrich Konrad Schneider , also Heinrich Conrad Schneider , (born March 25, 1828 in Trais-Horloff ; † November 8, 1898 in Worms ) was a German educator, agricultural scientist and founder and director of a well-known agricultural school with an attached brewing academy.
Life
Schneider was born as a farmer's son in Upper Hesse , attended the school teachers' seminar in Friedberg and worked as a teacher in Nieder-Stoll from 1848 , where he also devoted himself to agriculture. Schneider also took part in the “Allgemeine Schulzeitung” in Darmstadt as an employee . From 1852 to 1854 he studied natural sciences at the University of Giessen , where he was a student of the renowned chemist Justus von Liebig and received his doctorate as Dr. phil., which can also include agricultural sciences.
He then resumed teaching and taught again at the Nieder-Stoll school, then in Echzell , where in 1855 he also founded the "Wetterauer Ackerbauschule" , which was moved to Friedberg in 1861.
In the same year Schneider was transferred to the city school of Worms, from where he also initiated agricultural educational associations. As a hiking teacher , he conducted educational courses for adult farmers in Osthofen in 1855/56 and 1856/57 , which were very well received. In 1857 and 1858 he gave such courses in several other places in Rheinhessen . In 1858 Schneider became a teacher of natural sciences at the Gymnasium Worms , and from 1859 to 1861 at the Realschule Alzey .
Schneider, now known and sought after as an agricultural specialist, decided to teach full-time in this field. He sought a discharge from civil service, which was granted to him on June 7, 1861. Schneider went to Worms and opened an agricultural school here in 1861, at Lutherplatz 3. Since the city did not want to participate in the sponsorship, it remained a private institution. In 1867 it was expanded to include a miller's school (Südanlage 3). The previous teacher Fritz Engel took over this under his own direction in 1877.
In 1872 Schneider added a brewing academy to his school , which became very well known and at times had over 100 students per year. From then on the school was called the “Academy for Brewers and Farmers” . One of the teachers there was Lorenz Adalbert Enzinger , inventor of the beer filter named after him. The founder of the Grünstadt brewery, Johannes Jost , passed his master brewer examination here in 1875 .
Schneider also published specialist articles and writings a. a. 1874 in Leipzig the book “Die Mälzerei” , based on the now somewhat outdated standard work “Die Malzpreparation” by Edward Habich . The agricultural scientist Hermann Franz also attended Schneider's school and in 1873 he dedicated his dissertation "Studies on the potato tuber: Contribution to the scientific justification of a rational potato culture"
Schneider was also a city councilor from 1874 until his death in 1898 .
The school was run by his son Karl Anton until the early 20th century.
