Heinrich Leng

Heinrich Friedrich Leng (born December 20, 1795 in Eisenach , † June 18, 1835 in Ilmenau ) was a German fraternity and author .

Life

Born the son of a land rent master, Leng received private lessons and went to high school in Eisenach. In 1813 he began studying law in Jena, which he later continued in Giessen and at other universities. During his studies he became a member of the Saxonia Jena Landsmannschaft , but then became involved in 1815 as the founder of the original fraternity , on whose committee he was active; he was considered one of their leading representatives. In 1816 he belonged to an anti-fraternity order of black brothers within the fraternity . However, due to the work of Heinrich Arminius Riemann , he turned away from this countercurrent within the fraternity . In 1817 Leng took part in the Wartburg Festival. He was a friend of Karl Ludwig Sand and one of Karl Follen's absolute musts . Without having finished his studies, he returned to Eisenach, where in 1818 he set up a gymnasium with his federal brother Johann Friedrich Haberfeld . In 1818/19 Leng was involved in founding the first Jahnsche Gymnastics Institute in Eisenach, of which he became the head.

He traveled through Germany , Austria , Hungary and France , lived in Bingen for one year and in Paris for two years , where he took part intensively in the local nightlife, the soirees , and heard lectures by well-known Parisian professors on history , politics and the fine arts . After his fortune had been used up, he moved to Weimar , where he lived on translations and magazine articles for the industrial office. From 1823 he published the yearbook of inventions for an Ilmenau bookseller. Leng published numerous works in his publishing house. Among other things, he wrote obituaries in the New Nekrolog der Deutschen .

In 1828 in Jena he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD . Leng died in Ilmenau in 1835.
