Heinrich Leuchter (* 1558 in Melsungen ; † August 17, 1623 in Darmstadt ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran theologian .

Life

Heinrich Leuchter studied in Marburg theology and became a student of Giles Hunnius . After he received his doctorate in theology in 1585, he became pastor in Kirtorf and finally in 1588 superintendent and preacher in Marburg.

Landgrave Moritz von Hessen-Kassel dismissed him on July 22nd, 1605 because he refused to accept his so-called "points of improvement", which were supposed to make the University of Marburg a stronghold of Calvinism .

Landgrave Ludwig V of Hessen-Darmstadt accepted Leuchter as court preacher in 1606 and appointed him as Darmstadt superintendent in 1608. Because of his in-depth theological knowledge, Leuchter was one of the delegates who were supposed to settle the kenosis-crypsis dispute in Christology between theologians from Giessen and Tübingen .

In addition to his theological achievements, Leuchter was already successful as a student in the field of Latin poetry.
