Christian Heinrich August Sauthoff , nickname Heinrich (born December 31, 1828 in Hollenstedt (Northeim) , † August 21, 1889 in Moringen ) was a German treasurer and savings bank manager of the city of Moringen.

Life

Heinrich Sauthoff was the third son of the farmer and full cattle man Johann Heinrich Christoph Sauthoff (1792–1874) in Hollenstedt. Heinrich Sauthoff embarked on an office career while his eldest brother took over his father's farm, three other brothers became tailors and emigrated to Madison, Wisconsin , and the youngest sister married a nail blacksmith and emigrated with him to Oil City, Pennsylvania .

Heinrich Sauthoff worked from 1847-1852 as a sworn clerk in the King-Hanoverian Office of Moringen- Hardegsen and handled administrative, accounting, judicial and registry matters. In its screening in 1849, he was from because of "general body weakness without hope" military service optional. In 1852 the office was dissolved due to reorganization of the administration.

In 1853 Sauthoff became treasurer of the city of Moringen and representative of the public prosecutor's assistant . In 1858 he was also sworn in as a postal assistant to the postal company in Moringen . Since the city of Moringen only granted him a modest salary, he repeatedly applied for the royal Hanoverian administrative service, but without success.

1864 was savings and lending for the city Moringen founded, whose management Sauthoff as Sparcasse accounting officer in addition to his city treasurer-took office. The cash register was located in the finance box and was only open to the public on special Sparkasse days. This reflected the very cramped spatial conditions of the Moringen city administration. The business operations of the Sparkasse developed positively, so that the first financial year ended November 1, 1864 to December 31, 1865 with a profit of 60 thalers , half of which was due to the accounting officer as remuneration. Due to the increasing workload, Sauthoff gave up his post as a postal assistant in 1865 . The Sparkasse Moringen survived the annexation of Hanover by Prussia without any problems. In contrast, the Franco-Prussian War of 1870–1871 caused financial difficulties for the Sparkasse, so that the combing bank had to pledge its Swedish Pfandbriefe .

In addition to his administrative offices, Sauthoff also held the office of syringe master of the 2nd municipal fire brigade syringe , from which he was released in 1879. In 1882 the voluntary fire brigade Moringen was founded with the treasurer Sauthoff as 2nd commander.

The management of the treasury and the savings bank with the increase in the savings bank days (combined with salary increases) led to Sauthoff's increasing overload, so that he finally asked to be dismissed from his offices. After lengthy negotiations, the city of Moringen granted him retirement on April 1, 1888.
