The Stendaler Kleinbahn T 97 railcar is one of the first railcars of the DWK Kiel and was created in 1925. It was procured by the Stendaler Kleinbahn and belonged to the DWK type series IV, and there to the version with straight head sections, which is popularly known as " Kommissbrot " received. The design of the car is similar to the type V, such as the MFWE TI and DR 751 to 754 , compared to these vehicles it differs in its shorter length, lower engine power and lower maximum speed.

In 1937 the railcar came to the Kleinbahn Erfurt – Nottleben . After the end of the war it was nationalized in 1949 and taken over by the DR and was given the company number VT 137 520.

history

A whole series of narrow-gauge and standard-gauge vehicles were built from this type of railcar at DWK . Their design features were:

  • single-engine machinery
  • All-steel car body with trapezoidal car ends
  • Bogie construction
  • Roof cooling system.

In contrast to the MFWE T II, the all-steel riveted car body was designed with a trapezoidal front face, which was similar to the DR 751 to 754 multiple units . The only information known about the use of the railcar, which had the DWK road number 43, was that it was used as the T 97 on the Stendaler Kleinbahn . During the war, the car continued to run on LPG. After 1946 the car continued to be operated in Erfurt and was in service on the routes in the area until around 1959. Then it was put out of service and taken out of service in the mid-1960s.

Constructive features

The external dimensions of these vehicles match the vehicle mentioned, which was designated as DWK Type IV . The machine support frame was mounted on the bogies. This construction had the advantage that the machine system was freely accessible after the car body had been lifted off, which made maintenance considerably easier and the friction mass was somewhat cheaper than with the shrews . The car body was made of all-steel construction as a rivet construction and had the typical head shape of DWK cars. It was supported by coil springs on the weighing beams of the bogies. The passenger compartment was considered modern at the time. The vehicle part was extremely flexible and allowed track radii of up to 30 meters to be driven on.

The entire construction was kept very simple, so that any railway workshop could take over repair work following instructions. The gasoline engine, which was controlled with an overhead camshaft and overhead valves, transferred its power to a four-speed gearbox via a dry clutch that could be operated with a foot pedal. The train driver did his work while standing. This four-speed gearbox was mechanically switched with gear shifts. For this purpose, a handwheel for gear shifting was set up in every driver's cab. The inner wheel sets of each bogie were driven by the transmission via cardan shafts and axle drives. The wheel sets were stored in roller bearings.

The engine was started electrically. As standard, the vehicles were equipped with a handbrake and an electric brake ex works. A compressed air brake could also be installed at an additional cost .

The machinery of the vehicles was renewed in the 1930s and retrofitted with a diesel engine and the Mylius gearbox , which was the basis for the long service life of the vehicles.
