Heinrich Schmid (philosopher)
Johann Heinrich Theodor Schmid (born June 24, 1799 in Jena , † January 29, 1836 in Heidelberg ) was a German philosopher and university professor .
Life
Heinrich Schmid was the son of the professor of theology and church councilor Karl Christian Ehrhard Schmid . His father had founded a school where Schmid received his first education. In 1814 he moved to the Weimar grammar school before finally taking up his studies at the University of Jena . There he studied alongside the philosophy of the historical sciences and theology . There he probably became a Dr. theol. PhD . During his studies he began to develop an enthusiasm for patriotism and in 1817 became a member of the original fraternity . During this time he also expressed his views on the university system in an article for the Brockhaus Encyclopedia . After he passed the theological candidate exam, he moved to the University of Göttingen in 1821 to advance his academic career. Here he became a member of the Old Göttingen Burschenschaft / Burschenschaft Pideritia in 1821 . Then he returned to Jena. He had to dedicate himself to his literary career for the time being, since his fraternity activities made it impossible for him to teach.
In 1829 Schmid was given permission to give lectures at the University of Jena. Just one year later, in 1830, he received the reputation as an associate professor of philosophy at the University of Heidelberg . He soon became seriously ill and was no longer able to teach. As early as 1824 he had taken over as co-editor of the magazine Theologie und Philosophie , which had previously been published by Friedrich August Klein under the name For Christianity and God-Faith: an opposition pamphlet with Wilhelm Schröter.
