In the first edition of the periodical, Klein explained its purpose: The purpose of this journal is to fight boldly against the one-sided and falsehood that is currently being produced in the field of theology and the church, to preserve the pure doctrine of Christ from human additions, and to respect partly to preserve the results of historical and philosophical research, partly to disseminate them. It was later continued under the title For Theology and Philosophy by Schröter and Heinrich Schmid .

Klein became a deacon and garrison preacher in 1819 , although his health situation deteriorated noticeably with a chest disease.
