Heinrich von Eggeling

Heinrich Johann Ernst August von Eggeling (born February 15, 1838 in Helmstedt , † March 2, 1911 in Jena ) was a German teacher and curator .

Life

Born as the son of a school director and great-grandson of Jakob Friedrich Fries , Eggeling studied after attending the Helmstedt high school at the Collegium Carolinum in Braunschweig and later philosophy , mathematics and natural science in Jena, Göttingen and Berlin . During his studies he became a member of the Teutonia Jena fraternity in 1858 . He was friends with Ernst Abbe . From 1861 to 1863 he worked as a private tutor in Welna ( Posen ). After his state examination in 1863, he became a senior teacher in Braunschweig, where he worked as a high school teacher from 1864 to 1866 . Then he was educator of Princes Ernst and Friedrich von Sachsen-Meiningen until 1880 . In 1868 he received the title of professor . From 1880 to 1883 he was employed as a provisional school inspector in Hildburghausen and then became a government and school councilor in Meiningen . In 1884 he became a curator at the University of Jena . In 1909 he retired. He was a member of the Schäffer's Mathematical Society .
