Heinrich Schneier

Heinrich Schneier (born December 21, 1925 in Schmachtenberg, today a district of Zeil am Main ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

Life

After attending the elementary school in Zeil am Main and the upper secondary school in Haßfurt , he was drafted into the Reich Labor Service in Adelsdorf . In 1943 it was called up. Schneier joined the Navy and passed the main naval officer examination in the summer of 1944. Then Schneier was deployed as an ensign at sea off Holland until the end of the war . At the end of the war he was taken prisoner by the English, from which he was released in August 1945. After returning to Zeil, he first worked in the economic office in Haßfurt, then in the refugee administration in Hofheim in Lower Franconia and Kitzingen . In 1948 Schneier joined the SPDand worked as a newspaper editor, first for the Franconian Tag , then for the Haßfurter Tagblatt . From 1952 to 2002 he sat for the SPD in the district council . In 1962 he moved into the Bavarian state parliament , to which he was a permanent member until 1974. For his work in local politics, Schneier received the Bavarian Order of Merit , the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon and the Georg von Vollmar Medal of the Bavarian SPD. The city of Zeil am Main made Schneier an honorary citizen.
