Heinrich Seepolt
Heinrich Seepolt (born September 26, 1903 in Duisburg , † March 13, 1989 in Kirchheim (Euskirchen) ) was a painter and graphic artist .
Life
Heinrich Seepolt was at the Kunstgewerbeschule Essen from 1920 and studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1926 to 1931 . He was a master student with Paul Klee .
In 1923 Heinrich Seepolt founded the Duisburger Künstlerbund together with Hermann Bänder, Willi Kelter, Werner Kreuzhage, Marianne Nieten-Overbeck, Volkram Anton Scharf , Julius Schmitz-Bous, Peter Stermann, Hans Grohmann and Arthur Zahn.
Around 1932 he ran a studio in Duisburg, Lessingstraße 2 with five other artists, among them the graphic artist Heinz Kiwitz and the two painters Heinrich Goertz -Moldrickx and Volkram Anton Scharf. The city of Duisburg had made some rooms available for this in the former police headquarters. Heinrich Seepolt also gave regular courses there in the so-called training of seeing and design. One student was Peter Calmés .
Around 1930 he joined the Association of Revolutionary Visual Artists . From 1933, with the beginning of Nazi rule, the situation became more and more difficult for him, the communist and pacifist. In 1937 a picture of him was removed from a museum during the “ Degenerate Art ” campaign. In the same year the studio was searched. At times he lived underground. In 1944 the Duisburg studio was bombed out and numerous works were destroyed.
After the war, Heinrich Seepolt moved to Kirchheim in the Voreifel in 1950 , where he made friends with the Catholic dean Joseph Emonds . This turned out to be a " friend in spirit and disposition ". Both belonged to the newly formed peace movement from the 1950s .
