Heinrich VII. (Niedersalm)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Heinrich VII. Von Niedersalm (* around 1370 - † October 26, 1416 ) was the last count of the Lower Alm line (also: Alt-Salm) of the tribe of the Counts of Vianden founded by Friedrich II. Von Vianden and Elisabeth von Salm .

Henry VII was a son of Johann von Salm († 1380) and Ricardis von Dyck. Henry VII had been married to Jutta van Culemborg (1380–1428) since August 12, 1399. From this marriage came a son (Henry VIII) and a daughter (Maria). Heinrich's son of the same name fell on September 23, 1408 in the battle of Othée on the side of the Liège citizenship, while at the same time his father fought on the side of his liege lord Wilhelm II of Straubing-Holland , the Liege prince elect Johann von Straubing-Holland and Duke Johanns von Burgundy .

Heinrich's daughter Maria († 1414/1415) was married to the Raugrafen Otto von Baumburg and died before her father. This now determined his nephew Johann V. von Reifferscheid as heir. This was not recognized by Otto's heirs. Only after a judge's verdict by Anton von Croÿ , governor of Luxembourg, on February 6, 1455 did the county return, now to the son of John VI. († 1475). Johann VI. is the progenitor of the lines of the House of Salm-Reifferscheidt who were later raised to the prince status .
