Heinrich Vohs

Johann Heinrich Andreas Vohs (* probably March 16, 1763 in Kleve ; † July 16, 1804 in Stuttgart ) was a German actor and singer.

Life

From 1787 Vohs belonged to the traveling troupe of Christian Wilhelm Klos, who played in the Rhineland, and from 1789 to February 1790 to the Bonn National Theater , where the young Ludwig van Beethoven played in the orchestra. He then joined the hiking group of Peter Matthias Rheinberg .

On May 30, 1792 Vohs made his debut in Weimar , where he celebrated great success on June 9 with Carl Moor in Friedrich Schiller's drama Die Räuber . Soon after, Goethe entrusted him with the direction. On June 29, 1793 he married the 14 years younger actress Friederike Porth , with whom he had five children.

Other important roles were that of Max Piccolomini in Die Piccolomini (first performance on January 30, 1799) and Wallenstein's Death (first performance on April 20, 1799) as well as the title role in Macbeth in Schiller's adaptation (first performance on May 14, 1800). In the world premiere of Schiller's Maria Stuart on June 14, 1800, he played Mortimer, his wife the title role.

In September 1802 he went to Stuttgart with his wife and took over the post of artistic director at the court theater there .
