Heinrich Weiss (politician, 1789)

Heinrich Weiss (born May 28, 1789 in Fehraltorf , † June 20, 1848 in Winterthur ) was a Swiss politician.

Life

Heinrich Weiss was born as the son of the schoolmaster and farmer Salomon Weiss and his wife Anna Barbara Temperli.

He attended the canton school in Aarau and was initially a teacher at the school in Fehraltorf; later worked as a private tutor.

From 1826 to 1831 he was a salt factor (the salt factor was the name given to the concession for the trade in salt - state officials were often responsible for the trade in salt or the sale of salt) member of the Kyburg district court . From 1830 to 1839 he was a liberal member of the Zurich Grand Council and in 1835 president of this great Council, during the period he was also from 1831 to 1833 and from 1838 to 1839 Councilor ; as President of the Police Council he was active from 1832 to 1833 and from 1838 to 1839 President of the War Council. In 1838 and 1839 he took part as a delegate from the Diet and was a member of the Education Council from 1841 to 1842. In the period from 1842 to 1848 he was again a liberal member of the Zurich Grand Council and again its President in 1847.

He was involved in the founding of the Sparkasse in the Pfäffikon district and in the founding of the secondary school in Fehraltorf, which opened in 1835.

After his fall as a member of the government in the Züriputsch , he lived as a cloth dealer in Winterthur. He was a colonel in the Swiss Army .
