history
In the area around Fehraltorf, archaeological finds from the Late Bronze Age testify to continuous settlement.
In the 530s, Fehraltorf came to the Merovingian Empire together with northern Switzerland ; grave goods in the 57 graves that were uncovered in 2015 are evidence of this.
The Alemanni inhabited the area at least since 745 . In the Middle Ages the settlement was called Altorff or Altdorf or Rüeggisaltorf or Rüedgersaltorf; the name Fehraltorf (fehr = fern) was created to better distinguish it from Mönchaltorf , both of which were subject to interest at the Rüti monastery . In the 15th century , jurisdiction under the Kyburg district came into the possession of the city of Zurich .
In 1787 a quarter of the otherwise mainly arable population was employed in the cotton home industry. In 1798 Fehraltorf became the capital of a district of the same name, and the village has been part of the Pfäffikon district since 1831. The influence of industrialization remained comparatively small.
With the construction boom that began in the 1960s, Fehraltorf grew ever closer to the greater Zurich area and gained in population and economic importance.
