Heinrich Wettach
Heinrich Wettach (born June 12, 1858 in Vienna , † October 3, 1929 in St. Andrä in Villach ) was an Austrian portrait painter and musician who worked in Laibach from 1885 to 1918 .
After studying painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna , he moved to Laibach in 1885. Wettach initially worked as a freelance artist, teaching art history and drawing in 1900/1901 at the Second Gymnasium, then at the private school for teacher training.
From 1896 to 1914 he ran a private painting school in his studio . His pupils included the painter Elsa Kastl-Obereigner. Wettach was known as a portrait painter in Ljubljana, and around 1891 he also created four allegories of symphonic music in the concert hall of the Ljubljana Philharmonic .
In 1897 he moved into a villa designed by the Viennese architect Alfred Bayer . The villa currently houses the United States Embassy .
Heinrich Wettach was also active as a musician . As a member of the German Philharmonic Society in Ljubljana, he appeared as a violist , sometimes also as a pianist in the chamber orchestra of the Philharmonic Society.
In 1918 he moved to Carinthia .
