Hubertus Gersdorf

Hubertus Gersdorf (born October 29, 1962 in Hamburg ) is a German lawyer and professor at the University of Leipzig .

Life

From 1982 Gersdorf studied law at the University of Hamburg , where he passed his first state examination in law in 1988. In 1991 he received his doctorate at the Hamburg seminar for public law and political science under Carl-Eugen Eberle , where he had previously worked as a research assistant. From 1993 until the completion of his habilitation, which took place in Hamburg in 1998, he was research assistant to Peter Selmer . He was thus awarded the venia legendi for constitutional law, administrative law and the law of the European Communities.

Since 1999 Gersdorf has held the Gerd Bucerius Endowed Professorship for Communication Law at the University of Rostock . From 2006 to 2008 he was dean of studies at the Rostock Faculty of Law, from October 2014 to September 2016 he was its dean. In addition to his Rostock professorship, Gersdorf was temporarily a lecturer at the Europa-Institut Saarbrücken , since 2005 at the Hamburg Media School and since 2007 at the University of Bonn and the Bucerius Law School . In 2016 he changed to the chair of constitutional and administrative law as well as media and information law at the University of Leipzig, succeeding Christoph Degenhart .

Gersdorf's research focuses primarily on communication law, the regulation of network industries and postal services, and railway law. In addition, the areas of "new media" and Union and competition law are among his research areas. In addition, Gersdorf was a member of the Internet and Digital Society Enquete Commission set up by the Bundestag from 2010 to 2013 .

Gersdorf has been married to Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf since 1995 .
