Heinrich Witte (botanist)
Heinrich Witte , also Henrik Witte (* 1825 , † 1917 ) was a Dutch botanical gardener in Leiden . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is " Witte ".
Life
Witte was hired by Willem Hendrik de Vriese at the Hortus Botanicus Leiden . From 1855 to 1898 he was initially assistant curator and later curator at this botanical garden. He worked with Willem Frederik Reinier Suringar .
In his richly illustrated work Flora. Afbeeldingen en beschrijvingen van boomen, heesters, éénjarige planten, enz., Voorkomende in de Nederlandsche tuinen he has collected the attractive Dutch garden plants including trees and bushes; the illustrations were lithographed by G. Severeyns from Brussels after paintings by Abraham Jacobus Wendel .
