Count Heinrich the Younger of Stolberg and Lord of Wernigerode (born January 4, 1467 in Stolberg in the Harz Mountains , † December 16, 1508 in Cologne ) was governor of Friesland .

Life

Heinrich the Younger and his twin brother Botho zu Stolberg were sons of Count Heinrich the Elder zu Stolberg (1433–1511) and his first wife Mechthild, née Countess von Mansfeld (1436–1468).

While his brother Botho was sent to southern Germany when he was still young, his father drew him into government business as early as 1489. When he was 30 years old, his father gave him the reign of the County of Stolberg and the County of Wernigerode in 1497 . Since his brother Botho felt a bit disadvantaged, the father decided on December 11, 1499 that the two twin sons should rule together for the next four years. As early as 1491, Count Heinrich entered the service of Elector Friedrich the White of Saxony. 1493 he took part in the pilgrimage to the Holy Land in part and was in Jerusalem for the Knights of the Holy grave defeat.

In 1498 he accompanied the elector when he was elected Grand Master of the Teutonic Order in Königsberg and traveled there. On April 14, 1506 he was appointed governor of Friesland by Duke Georg von Sachsen . However, he was only able to hold this office for two years because he died while traveling.
