Heinrich von Attems-Petzenstein
Count Heinrich Karl Michael von Attems-Petzenstein (born November 28, 1834 in St. Florian , † August 11, 1909 in Graz ) was an Austrian officer and pomologist .
Life
Heinrich Karl Michael Graf von Attems- Petzenstein was born in 1834 as the son of Karl Bernhard Michael Graf Attems-Petzenstein (1809–1849) and Orsolina Gogoli (1812–1863) and married on May 8, 1866 Thekla v. Schmidt-Pauli, daughter of the Gh plus. oldenb. Gen. Consul Theodor v. Schmidt-Pauli. He volunteered as a cadet at the age of 16 . He fought in 1859 at the Battle of Magenta and the Battle of Solferino , in 1864 as a captain in Infantry Regiment No. 6 in Denmark and in 1866 at the Battle of Königgrätz . As a result of his wounding (rifle shot through the kneecap) in the German War as a battalion commander of the kuk infantry regiment No. 6, he was appointed kuk major a. D. retired. He promoted Styrian fruit growing and the Universal Museum Joanneum . He was a member of the natural science association for Styria. In 1875 he took part in the first meeting of the directors of seed culture stations, chaired by Friedrich Nobbe . Heinrich Graf Attems was the owner and founder of the seed culture station in St. Peter near Graz, where soybeans were also tested. He writes to Friedrich Haberlandt : “On the whole, this year's culture has also been very successful and” I now “consider soy to be safe and count it among our best crops”.
His oldest son is the zoologist Carl von Attems-Petzenstein .
His correspondence with Carl Schnorr von Carolsfeld is preserved in the Saxon State Library.
